Today we celebrate Flag Day and the 251st birthday of the U.S. Army.

For 251 years, generations of soldiers have answered the call to serve, protect, and sacrifice for our country. We’re grateful for those who have worn the uniform and for the families who have supported them along the way.

Thank you to all who have served—past and present. 🇺🇸

Heroes Among Us 🌟

On December 14, 2025, Sgt. Jeremy Pope and Deputy Alec Eichler answered a call that would change a family’s life forever. An 18-month-old child was in respiratory distress, struggling to breathe. Because of their fast response and the actions they took in those critical moments, that child received the medical care they needed — and survived.

That’s the weight these men and women carry every single day. Behind every call is a family praying for the best, and sometimes a few minutes makes all the difference.

We’re proud to share that both deputies have since been recognized for their courage — first with a resolution from the Nacogdoches County Commissioners Court on May 26, 2026, and again on June 11, 2026, when the East Texas Peace Officers Association honored them with a plaque for their actions that day.

To Sgt. Pope and Deputy Eichler — thank you. Thank you for your steady hands, your quick thinking, and your dedication to the people of Nacogdoches County. You represent the very best of what it means to serve.

This week's Hero Spotlight is someone who simply doesn't know how to stop serving.

After 30 years with the Houston Police Department, retiring as a HPD sergeant — Glen Dickerson could have called it a career. Instead, he took a job as Shelby County Precinct 5 Deputy Constable because public service is just who he is.

But it doesn't stop there. Glen runs Project Zero, a nonprofit called Sharks Templar that provides free land-based shark fishing trips for veterans and first responders as a form of adventure therapy. He also helps manage Lake Naconiche Retreat and coordinates fishing outings for local assisted living residents.

Thirty years on the job. A second career in law enforcement. A nonprofit serving heroes on the Texas coast. Glen does it all — not for recognition, but because he genuinely cares.

That's our kind of hero. 💙
